Case Study: Jeff

Jeff first came to NNTC at age 11. At that time, he struggled academically and with emotional processing. Jeff made conceptual errors in math and was a horrible speller with sloppy handwriting. He forgot his school work and was overly sensitive to certain sounds. Jeff had angry outbursts towards his sister, for which he saw a therapist; had difficulty rationalizing; difficulty processing social cues; couldn’t accommodate rush; and bit his nails regularly, a sign of anxiety.

Jeff participated in a program of neurological reorganization consistently for thirteen months. During that time, all of his presenting problems improved and, ultimately, were eliminated. Jeff began to interpret social cues appropriately and made new friends. He learned to manage his anger and express his emotions suitably. Additionally, he took on a leadership role in school, trained a guide dog, constructed models and hammocks on his own, and read large books on his own initiative. His academics improved to the point that he only missed one on his spelling test and made honor roll at school. Jeff doesn’t have any of the issues that first brought him to NNTC and can enter his teenage years full of hope and possibility.
